Juara- (New York, NY) For the last few weeks, I have had the pleasure of trying some wonderful new skin care products from Juara. The skincare line, founded by four woman who decided to create and east-meets-west line of skin care products in the spirit of the ancient spas in Indonesia. The line is all natural, using ingredients that come straight from the earth. The line is comprised of such ingredients as rice, tamarind, turmeric, healing teas, candlenut oil and red sandalwood.

My experience with the Juara Company was wonderful from day one. We contacted the company and expressed interest in their products and in reviewing the skin care line, and within 24 hours a package arrived with samples of many of their products. The package also came with an information sheet on each product. Along with my two co-testers, we went through each product so that we could divide and conquer.

Each product is designed for a specific skin type, some are designed for multiple skin types, but I decided it was best to dole out products based on who it would work best for. I should note that when visiting the Juara website you can search for products by skin type (dry, oily, combo) which makes it very easy to get the best product for you. Directions for the use of each product are on the containers so that you use properly to get the desired results.

The packaging of the products is visually appealing really well done. The products come in really nice boxes and bottles. They would be great for a gift basket and look great on the bathroom shelves. The one flaw with the packaging is that some of the containers, especially those with the screw on caps were hard to open and even more difficult to close properly. That was one complaint that I heard from the other two testers as well. For some reason the lids don’t close properly after the first opening. This might cause products to dry out more quickly.

All of the Products we tested smelled GREAT!!!!!!! This was something we all agreed on. The shower moisturizers and body gels made everybody’s home smell great. We received many compliments on the scents. It is not at all heavy or overly perfumey. All of the products smelled really clean and natural.

THE PRODUCTS:

I will begin with the products that I tried. I normally do not put anything on my face that does not say Hypoallergenic, but I gave the Clarifying Mask, and Rice Scrub a chance. I would however highly recommend to the Juara people that they try to get a “dermatologist tested” seal or go through the testing needed to be labeled as Hypoallergenic. I think I speak for many women with sensitive skin, when I say it is scary to try new products that do not specifically say hypoallergenic, especially on your face.

14b.jpgLime Puree and Cucumber Clarifying Mask

The texture of the mask was great. It was gel like, but really light and soft. It felt cool on my face and had a slight tingle. I used the mask twice a week for the last three weeks and I really feel as it if made a difference. I actually felt it after the first use. The mask really makes your skin feel soft and clean. It didn’t dry out my face and most importantly, it didn’t cause my face any irritation, which happens often with face masks.

6b.jpgRice Facial Scrub
The light gel like scrub felt great on my skin and the little pieces of rice did an amazing job exfoliating my skin without the harsh effects I’ve experienced with other exfoliating scrubs. The best part of this scrub is that it is a great way to remove make-up without scrubbing or irritating the skin with harsh chemicals. The Scrub was also very moisturizing. Unlike other scrubs it did not dry out or irritate my skin while still removing dirt and oil
and exfoliating dead skin.

17b.jpgCandelnut Body Polish

This is a bath/shower body lotion with natural shell grains. It was amazing on my skin. I loved this product. It’s really like and smooth. The shell grains massage the skin and remove dirt and dead skin without the harsh effects of many exfoliating lotions. Makes skin feel really clean and smooth.

19b.jpgCandelnut Hand and Body Balm

This product feels great, but is very light and probably better for summer months. It was a little watery for my taste, I prefer a heavier lotion, but if you like a really thin light moisturizer, this one is great. I like a heavier lotion, especially in the cold dry winter months. The lotion smells great and feels really light. Will be great in the summer months and would be great for a day at the beach.

TESTER A, Tried the Black Tea Eye Cream and the Jasmine Bath and Shower Gel, while TESTER B tried the Black Tea Lip Treatment, Jasmine Body Milk and Turmeric Facial Mask.

Tester A loved the Black Tea Eye Cream. She said that it felt light, but really moisturizing. After 3 weeks of use, she felt like she was beginning to see some good results. Her eyes felt more awake and the skin around her eyes looked softer and younger. She was very happy with the results.
Tester A had some problems Jasmine Bath and Shower Gel. Another packaging problem was that the pop top did not open all the way and it was a little difficult to use the product in the shower. While tester A loved the smell and feel of the gel, she would have preferred a shower gel with more lather. She wasn’t sure if it was really cleansing her skin because it did not lather up. Tester A felt she had to use too much of the product during each shower. She did love the smell of the product and said that her skin felt soft after using it.

22b.jpgTester B loved both the Tiare Jasmine Tea Body Milk and Turmeric Antioxidant Facial Mask. She said that the products smelled great, felt great, and left her skin really smooth and clean. Tester B was especially happy with the face mask which she said left her skin really soft and smooth and seemed to minimize her pores. She was happy with the light airy feeling of the mask and commented that is was great at cleaning her skin without being overly drying. Tester B had some reservations about the fact that it did not say HYPOALLERGENIC, but was glad that she tried it and it did not irritate her skin.

The Black Tea Lip Treatment was not a big hit. It was really light and creamy and did not stay on the lips. It was a bit too lotiony and did not feel like it was nourishing on the lips.

Overall I would definitely recommend these products. They work really well, feel great, are all natural and they will make your skin look and feel amazing. I would make sure to read all ingredients of each product before buying to make sure there is nothing that you are sensitive to. As I stated, these products, while all natural, do not say hypoallergenic, so make sure if you have sensitive skin to test them before use. These products also smell great and will make your home smell wonderful. The website is great; Juara has a full line of skin care, beauty and even health care products. Except for a few small details, we were all happy with the products and their results.

xocai-logo.bmpXOCAI PRODUCT REVIEW

For the last few weeks, I have been lucky enough to sample a variety of products from the Xocai line of products. While I did not get to sample the full line; I received all of the products from the Xocai variety pack, which includes:
1 bottle of Xoçai, Xoçai Protein Bars, Xoçai Nuggets, Omega Bars

Let start by explaining exactly what Xocai is.
(MXI)Marketing Xocalate (Chocalate) International Reno, Nevada based company, is the parent company of Xocai. Pronounced (Sho Sai), the chocolate line is a combination of the ancient Central American cocoa based drink “Xocolatl” combined with the Acai Berry. The Acai is a small cherry like berry Native to the Amazon region of Central America.. The basis behind the product is to combine the antioxidant power of dark chocolate with the immune boosting, health benefits of the Acai Berry. The chocolates are sweetened in part with Agave Nector to reduce the glycemic index an increase nutritional value. The combination dark chocolate and Acai berry is a healthy alternative to the typical chocolates on the market and the company claims it can also help aid in weight loss.

The first BIG BIG BIG plus about this product…..the CHOCOLATE. And it’s HEALTHY CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!!! I am a big chocoholic, and I think I am not alone out there. Any product that tells me I can be healthy and possibly lose weight by eating chocolate sounds amazing.

The packaging of the products is great. Colorful, but tasteful, looked like any chocolate that I would buy at the store. The packaging didn’t scream “diet,” which was nice. I felt like I was really indulging and didn’t feel like I was eating some kind of sub-par “diet” chocolate.” I read through the labels, all of which had natural ingredients, no crazy chemicals or strange things I couldn’t pronounce. The only 2 major flaws I found right away with the products were, the large drink bottle which didn’t fit on my refrigerator, and the inconsistencies in the ingredients. Some chocolate has milk protein, some don’t.. One bar might contain soy while another does not. The bar has sucralose, a fake sugar, and the nuggets are “clean” products, and fake sugar free. While this does not bother me, for some who have allergies or are concerned with eating vegan, it might be necessary to visit the website. The website is very thorough and will go over the ingredients of each product.

Now for my individual product reviews. For this experiment I enlisted three other friends, some chocolate lovers, others not. We tested, sampled and experimented with each product to get the most accurate and complete review possible.

Xocai Protein Bar
xocai_proteinbar.jpgThis might be the one major negative of the bunch. I’m a fairly healthly eater. I go to the gym and from time to time indulge in a protein bar as a snack or meal replacement. Protein bars are difficult to get right, and Xocai has fallen prey to a common protein bar trap……CHALKY TEXTURE. While it is important to have a bar with a good amount of protein and fiber, it is really hard to eat protein bars that are chalky and dry with the “fake chocolate” aftertaste. I was not alone in my opinion. The other testers agreed and unfortunately, the four of us couldn’t finish this one little bar. My opinion, add a little fat, some real products, and make it edible. People who work out and eat protein bars, don’t mind a little fat and calories as long as it is high in protein and can actually be eaten.

Xocai Nuggets
xocai_nuggs.jpgNo complaints. Great little perfect nugget of a snack. Small, clean tasting, healthy piece of dark chocolate. I must warn people however, that this is really pure clean chocolate and so, it is very solid and can be a bit hard to just bite into. I tested it 2 ways,
1) I put in the microwave for 10 second and it was great. Softened it up and was much easier to eat.
2) I melted it and dipped a marshmallow in it. Perfect and yummy. Melts really well. This was a great satisfying piece of chocolate. The nuggets make great snack to quench a craving, or the perfect after dinner treat. The chocolate nuggets definitely take away the chocolate craving.

Xocia Omega Bar
xocai_omega.jpgAgain, another great chocolate snack. This actually seemed like a better meal replacement than the protein bar. While not as health as the protein bar, it was very delicious and edible. It was the perfect size and had a little crunch to it. It was very tasty and satisfied my chocolate craving. The texture and taste was just like another other chocolate you would buy, no chalkiness or strange aftertaste. The other tasters agreed and thought the little bit of crunch it had to it really hit the spot.

Xocai Drink
xocai-drink.jpgThis had mixed reviews. When you first get the bottle, you must mix it with water. You have to find the perfect amount of water because too much and its too liquidy and too little and its way too thick. After the water, the drink must be refrigerated overnight. So plan ahead, you can’t drink it right away. The bottle is also a bit large and awkward. Some of you with a smaller fridge, might want to skip this one.

As for the taste, mixed reviews. The drink is a chocolately- cherry flavored concoction. Three out of the four of us liked it, however we all felt it was a bit thick. You might want to start off adding just a little water and modify to your thickness preference. One tester did not like the taste at all and felt there was a slight aftertaste.

We mixed it with milk and thought it was really good. A sort of chocolate-berry healthy milk. Although it was probably mental, it really made me feel rejuvenated and awake in the morning. I also froze the drink in an ice cube tray and made little pops. Although this sounds crazy, the texture and taste was a lot like a fudge pop. So, if you’re looking for a great nutritious snack, freezing this drink is a great option. You could even freeze it in a bowl and eat it like sorbet. Deelish.

So, all in all, I would definitely recommend the Xocai product line. I wasn’t crazy about the protein bars, and wouldn’t suggest those, but the rest of the line is really great. It is healthy and all natural without compromising on taste and texture. I really loved the nuggets and the chocolate bar. They tasted better than store brands and were a lot more healthy and natural. And definitely experiment with the chocolates. It was fun and I found a lot of different ways to eat the chocolates and enjoy them. My one recommendation would be to read the ingredients of each product to make sure they work for you, because each one is different. Great product that I would go out and buy.

oceangrown.jpgProduct Review: OGI- Ocean Grown International

Recently I received the new line of products from Ocean Grown International. Ocean Grown makes products using all natural ingredients derived primarily from the Ocean. Some of their primary ingredients are Icelandic Krill and Moss, Irish Seaweed, Krill Oil, and Beeswax.

Their introductory OAVE line, the new company’s first product offering, comes with four products; a body lotion, face lotion, face spray mist and antioxidant/Omega-3 tablets.

My initial reaction to the packaging was that it was packaged beautifully. Since we “eat with our eyes,” it is important to me that the packaging looked appealing and well made. The box came with several short, easy to read information sheets on each product and its ingredients and info on the company.

As I looked over each product, I read the ingredients and noticed that I pretty much knew or could pronounce all of them. I don’t know about you, but most of the products I have at home have a list of 20 ingredients that I can’t pronounce and am fairly certain are not found in nature. The one or two ingredients I didn’t know were explained in the packet, and turns out were all natural as well. I was really pleased that these products were natural and from the ocean.

Now, time for the real test, put them to use…….

—First I have to say that I did NOT try the face lotion, and here are the 2 reasons why….

1)I have very sensitive skin which I believe is a problem for many many woman in this country. I am leery about putting anything on my face that does not specifically say HYPOALLERGENIC. I definitely do not want an allergic reaction, especially not on my face! While I was confident in the pureness of the product, I wasn’t taking a chance.

2) My second problem was that there was no SPF in the product. I have very fair skin and as we have all learned, it is essential to use SPF every single day. Even in the winter months. I would not use a face lotion that did not protect my face from UV rays.

I did however give the face lotion to a friend, who is not as concerned with such things. She was really pleased with it. She said it was very light and non-greasy. While she felt that for windy, dry conditions, it might not be quite heavy enough, she thought in normal conditions it would be very moisturizing and the powdery finish felt great on her skin.

OAVE Body

oave-body.jpgThis product was great. It comes in a big round jar which I LOVE! I hate those pumps and squeezy things. I hate the struggle at the end of the bottle. It smells amazing. It really smells fresh and natural. It has a very very light fruity smell, but not at all potent. Its sort of an orange, peachy mixture. Not at all overwhelming. The lotion is light and non greasy and dries almost powder like. I really think it is amazing. My ONE and ONLY MINUS…..I live in a cold city, New York. Not the coldest, but winters are cold and dry and windy. I need a really heavy moisturizer in the winter. I might not recommend it in colder months. I did however use it over my thick moisturizer today and it worked GREAT! I will definitely use it up fast in summer, but wouldn’t recommend for a harsh winter. It will be great after the beach, and the fresh natural smell lasts all day

OAVE Mist

oave-mist.jpgAgain, no HYPOALLERGENIC label, but since goes on over other stuff, I gave it a chance. Smells great, really refreshing. I’ve been throwing it in my gym bag and spraying it on after a workout. It really revives my skin and makes me feel great and refreshed I especially like it when I have to run errands after the gym, before going home. A few sprays on the face and you look alive again, at least until getting home to wash up. Makes the skin feel really clean and gives you a great glow. I highly recommend for after the gym.

OAVE Inside

oave-inside.jpgI’m not really sure whether or not they are working, but they definitely aren’t hurting me. They are small, go down easy, and have no yucky taste or aftertaste like many vitamins do. It does not hurt my tummy and can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. I’m not a doctor, so I can’t vouch for their effectiveness, but the ingredients are healthy and all natural and won’t hurt you. It’s a great easy way to get essential Omega 3 and Antioxidants into your body.

Overall, I gotta give this foursome a big thumbs up. I would go to the store and buy it. I love love love the fact that the ingredients come from the earth and from the ocean. They are healthy and natural and you can feel really good about putting them on your skin. They feel and smell great and the lotions really feel amazing on your skin.

The only minuses in the product line, the lotions are not quite heavy enough for a cold dry winter and the lack of HYPOALLERGENIC labeling and that there is no SPF in them. I feel that especially as a company that represents the ocean and outdoors, being aware of the importance of having products with SPF in it is crucial and is something the company should look at.
