Product Review: OGI- Ocean Grown International
Recently I received the new line of products from Ocean Grown International. Ocean Grown makes products using all natural ingredients derived primarily from the Ocean. Some of their primary ingredients are Icelandic Krill and Moss, Irish Seaweed, Krill Oil, and Beeswax.
Their introductory OAVE line, the new company’s first product offering, comes with four products; a body lotion, face lotion, face spray mist and antioxidant/Omega-3 tablets.
My initial reaction to the packaging was that it was packaged beautifully. Since we “eat with our eyes,” it is important to me that the packaging looked appealing and well made. The box came with several short, easy to read information sheets on each product and its ingredients and info on the company.
As I looked over each product, I read the ingredients and noticed that I pretty much knew or could pronounce all of them. I don’t know about you, but most of the products I have at home have a list of 20 ingredients that I can’t pronounce and am fairly certain are not found in nature. The one or two ingredients I didn’t know were explained in the packet, and turns out were all natural as well. I was really pleased that these products were natural and from the ocean.
Now, time for the real test, put them to use…….
—First I have to say that I did NOT try the face lotion, and here are the 2 reasons why….
1)I have very sensitive skin which I believe is a problem for many many woman in this country. I am leery about putting anything on my face that does not specifically say HYPOALLERGENIC. I definitely do not want an allergic reaction, especially not on my face! While I was confident in the pureness of the product, I wasn’t taking a chance.
2) My second problem was that there was no SPF in the product. I have very fair skin and as we have all learned, it is essential to use SPF every single day. Even in the winter months. I would not use a face lotion that did not protect my face from UV rays.
I did however give the face lotion to a friend, who is not as concerned with such things. She was really pleased with it. She said it was very light and non-greasy. While she felt that for windy, dry conditions, it might not be quite heavy enough, she thought in normal conditions it would be very moisturizing and the powdery finish felt great on her skin.
OAVE Body
This product was great. It comes in a big round jar which I LOVE! I hate those pumps and squeezy things. I hate the struggle at the end of the bottle. It smells amazing. It really smells fresh and natural. It has a very very light fruity smell, but not at all potent. Its sort of an orange, peachy mixture. Not at all overwhelming. The lotion is light and non greasy and dries almost powder like. I really think it is amazing. My ONE and ONLY MINUS…..I live in a cold city, New York. Not the coldest, but winters are cold and dry and windy. I need a really heavy moisturizer in the winter. I might not recommend it in colder months. I did however use it over my thick moisturizer today and it worked GREAT! I will definitely use it up fast in summer, but wouldn’t recommend for a harsh winter. It will be great after the beach, and the fresh natural smell lasts all day
OAVE Mist
Again, no HYPOALLERGENIC label, but since goes on over other stuff, I gave it a chance. Smells great, really refreshing. I’ve been throwing it in my gym bag and spraying it on after a workout. It really revives my skin and makes me feel great and refreshed I especially like it when I have to run errands after the gym, before going home. A few sprays on the face and you look alive again, at least until getting home to wash up. Makes the skin feel really clean and gives you a great glow. I highly recommend for after the gym.
OAVE Inside
I’m not really sure whether or not they are working, but they definitely aren’t hurting me. They are small, go down easy, and have no yucky taste or aftertaste like many vitamins do. It does not hurt my tummy and can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. I’m not a doctor, so I can’t vouch for their effectiveness, but the ingredients are healthy and all natural and won’t hurt you. It’s a great easy way to get essential Omega 3 and Antioxidants into your body.
Overall, I gotta give this foursome a big thumbs up. I would go to the store and buy it. I love love love the fact that the ingredients come from the earth and from the ocean. They are healthy and natural and you can feel really good about putting them on your skin. They feel and smell great and the lotions really feel amazing on your skin.
The only minuses in the product line, the lotions are not quite heavy enough for a cold dry winter and the lack of HYPOALLERGENIC labeling and that there is no SPF in them. I feel that especially as a company that represents the ocean and outdoors, being aware of the importance of having products with SPF in it is crucial and is something the company should look at.

FYI - these products DO have SPF in them! Naturally! PLEASE check out my site for more info on the benefits of these products. I’ve been using them for a week now, have been in the hot sun (a lot) and I have not got burned at all -the pores on my face have all but disappeared, my skin is softer and clearer and the lines around my eyes are almost GONE!

Lynn,
There is nothing labeled on the product which says what the SPF is, nor does it say there is SPF in them so we want to just make sure that the facts are clear. While the product does state “natural UV protection”, that is not a standard in which people would be able to judge how much protection they would get from being out in the sun for extended periods of time.
While we are glad you are having positive results with the products, we still must put the facts out there. If OGI does release new packaging stating the SPF, we will gladly post that to our readers.
