Herbalife products will now be more widely available to consumers across China. Herbalife has announced that China’s Ministry of Commerce has just granted the nutraceutical company five additional licenses to operate a direct selling business across the country.

The new licenses will allow the company to operate in Beijing, Guangdong, Shandong, Zhejiang and Guizhou. All of the licenses are in effect immediately except for Beijing where it will only take effect after the company opens new service outlets.

Direct Selling and MLM companies have long been outlawed across China and only recently has the government eased up and allowed such companies, under strict provisions, operate. Companies must procure a license in order to operate in each city and province.

Herbalife CEO, Michael Johnson was thrilled with the announcement and excited about Herbalife’s opportunity to expand across the Asian region. “We are honored to receive these additional licenses from the Chinese government, we appreciate this opportunity to expand our business in this important marketplace.”

Herbalife currently operates almost 100 retail stores across 30 Chinese provinces. The company also announced that along with the newest provinces it will be expanding into, it will soon open a new retail store in Shanghai.
