Longaberger announced this past week that the company, famous for its hand woven baskets, will begin selling the American Home Pottery collection in just a month. The new collection which will include plates, bowls, and mugs will all be stamped with the words “Made in America,” and will be available to consumers March 1st.

flagbasketLongaberger will continue to sell its current pottery line, which is made in Asia, but hopes the newest products will appeal to the many consumers who in these hard economic times have become conscious of buying American to help others stay employed and to strengthen and rebuild the economy.

The company’s new line of pottery will be made in three locations in the west and Midwest. For some unknown reason, the company is choosing to keep the location of these three facilities secret. The company said that are still working out details with suppliers and is open to adding additional pottery makers.

“Made in America matters,” company president and chief executive Tami Longaberger said in a press release. “Rebuilding our nation’s economy requires an investment in America and its workers. It is the right thing to do. It is what we’re about.”

Pottery accounts for about 15 percent of the company’s sales. While the new line of pottery will cost slightly more than the current line produced in Asia, the benefits of buying and supporting the made in the U.S. pottery, far out way the few extra bucks that you will spend on the products.

Premier basket maker, The Longaberger Company, has just unveiled the holiday edition of their new web magaine, Longaberger Home. The online magazine puts the Longaberger holiday products on display as well as showcases the opportunity potential business opportunity for distributors.

CEO and President of Longaberger, Tami Longaberger, hosts the Longaberger Home. Tami lets viewers into her home where she shares the story of the basketmaking company and spends time with Consultants showcasing the many products the company offers, not only baskets, but pottery, wrought iron and fabric accessories. “Longaberger Home is about our heart, friendships, family and fun. We’re giving women and men the opportunity to share in our spirit,” Longaberger said.

The Longaberger Company has over 45,000 distributors around the world who continue to remain passionate about the baskets and quality products that have been produced by the Ohio based company for a century. The news comes a week after the loss of the company Matriarch, Bonnie Longaberger who passed away just last week at the age of 100.

Some sad new today for the MLM community, Bonnie Jean Longaberger, the 100-year-old matriarch of the Longaberger basket company has passed away.

Bonnie and her late husband, J.W. Longaberger, raised 12 children in Dresdon, Ohio, where J.W. worked at a basket company that was next door to the family house. He taught the children the art of making the baskets by hand. The couples’ late son, Dave Longaberger went on to found the Longaberger Basket Company which is now run by Dave’s son.

Tami Longaberger, the company’s Chief Executive and President put a letter on the Longaberger Co. website to inform all customers, saying that her grandmother had remained active in the company and the community until recent years. She describes “Grandma Bonnie” as a resilient, loving woman with a zest for life. Condolences may be sent to bonniesympathy@longaberger.com

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at the Dresden United Methodist Church. Those who wish to make contributions in Bonnie’s memory may do so by making checks payable to the “Grandma Bonnie Fund” and send to The Longaberger Foundation, 1500 E. Main Street, Newark, OH

The Direct Selling Association will be on hand this week to help the Today Show kick off their annual Toy Drive. The 15th Annual TODAY Show Holiday Toy Drive will be launched Monday November 24th at 8:30 AM. This will be the fifth year that the DSA has been a part of the annual drive.

The DSA will kick off the drive by presenting the direct selling industry’s donation live in Rockefeller Plaza. Thirty two direct selling companies have come together to donate products to the drive, the total donation coming in at over $9 million dollars in products. Seven of the DSA’s companies will be featured in spots on the TODAY show during the holiday season.

Items donated include books, clothing, toiletries and of course toys for children and families all across the United States. Over the past five years, DSA member companies have donated over $37 million dollars in cash, product and services to the Toy Drive.

This is a a brilliant move on the part of the DSA and the member companies that are a part of this. Given the economic times, network marketing companies are going to continue to thrive as more and more people seek additional forms of income.
