The Fraud Discovery Institute is at it again…..The “institute” has just released a study claiming that the Nu Skin Nu Color Replenishing Lipstick in Amber Spice contained very high levels of lead.

The testing was done by Safecosmetics.org -a non-profit consumer safety organization that aims to protect the public from dangerous lead-filled cosmetics. This is also the same lab that reported just months ago about the high levels of lead in various Herbalife products. And of course, both studies were funded by Barry Minkow, the founder of the FDI and advocate against all MLM companies.

To establish a baseline for what constitutes dangerous lead levels, FDI compared the finding in the Nu Skin lipstick against test results of other lipsticks and found that that Amber spice contain 1.12 ppm of lead, far above what other lipsticks contained.

Stacy Malkan, communications director for Safe Cosmetics.org stated that the lead in the Nu Skin lipstick appears to be almost twice as high as the most lead-contaminated brand tested by SafeCosmetics.org.

“The FDA has no established lead law for lipstick, but I think that it is safe to assume that Nu Skin probably does not want the distinction of being the most lead-contaminated of lipsticks tested by the non-profit organization seeking to protect consumers from dangerous products,” said Barry Minkow, co-founder of the Fraud Discovery Institute.

Minkow would also like to remind everyone that although his primary focus is annoying and attempting to take down Herbalife, he will also continue to try to take down and be a thorn in the side of other MLM companies as well, hence the Lipstick studies of Nu Skin cosmetics. Nu Skin has not released an official comment on the study, but we will keep you posted on any new developments.

NuSkin Enterprises, along with researchers at Purdue University are all set to unveil a report with finding from an extensive study on skin damage, aging and a previously unknown source of superoxide free radicals. The details of the report are a bit confusing and heavy with medical and scientific terminology, but I will try to break it down for you. Bear with me…….

Free radicals are basically atoms with unpaired electrons. They are explosive and can trigger a dangerous chain reaction of disease and damage within the human body. Many researchers have attributed an increased number of free radicals within the body as a key factor in aging. Free radicals from external factors as sun exposure, and smoking have been known to damage skin and deplete the skins collagen and elastin. Now, NuSkin and Purdue researchers have identified a new source of superoxide free radicals called NADH Oxidase, or arNOX.

The scientists on the research team will present their finding on arNOX at the International Investigative Dermatology 2008 Conference. The conference, held in Kyoto Japan, May 14-17 is the world’s only forum for discussions and presentations on skin biology.

The research team from NuSkin and Purdue will present their finding on the potentially damaging effects of arNOX on cell membranes. The team will also introduce evidence of increased arNOX activity in those 45-70.

“Evidence of arNOX in the skin provides further insights into potentially revolutionary therapies for skin care, particularly because its activity correlates with the ages when people begin to see their skin lose its elasticity and firmness, and notice more discoloration and lines and wrinkles,” remarked Helen Knaggs, PhD, vice president of NuSkin global research and development. “If we can develop innovative ways to inhibit arNOX activity and prevent the production of free radicals in the first place, then we can address both sides of the equation — correcting free radical damage from external sources, while at the same time preventing free radical production from internal sources.”

NuSkin is hoping to use this study to come up with ways to inhibit the arNOX free radicals from damaging the skin before the aging process begins to show. Currently, most dermatological treatments can only fix the skin after the effects of aging begin to show. NuSkin is constantly looking for ways to prevent the damage before it begins. The commitment to research is one of the key factors in the success of NuSkin. Their commitment to research has not only set them apart from other MLM companies, but has also put the level of their products above them as well.

Summer is creeping up on us and we all know what that means…..bathing suit time! It’s time to shed the bulky sweaters and long johns and trade them in for shorts and tees. If you’re like me, you’ve put on a couple pounds this winter and now with the temperature rising, its time to take it off!! There are so many weight loss products on the market, all making promises to burn fat, speed up your metabolism, burn carbs…..but do they work? Maybe, maybe not, but most are not natural and not healthy and the side effects far outweigh any results you might see.

Pharmanex has a great new solution for safe, natural, effective weight loss. Pharmanex has introduced The MY VICTORY Weight Loss PLAN. The word PLAN is important. The Victory Weight loss system is not one product claiming to burn fat and speed your metabolism, it is a full plan for slimming down and getting healthy.

The PLAN including Shakes that control appetite and burns calories, Metabotrim and Duolean, two supplements that keep you healthy while helping suppress your appetite and burn calories naturally and safely, as well as a simple 1-2-3- eating plan.

The biggest advantage this system has over others is the GoWear Armband. The My Victory plan includes the GoWear Fit Armband which is to be worn daily. The armband is the result of a strategic partnership between BodyMedia and Pharmanex. The armband can be integrated into the My Victory website and keeps track of calorie burn and calorie intake. The armband take much of the guesswork out of dieting, by telling you how much you’ve consumed and burned, and what you should do to burn the optimum amount of weight. The armband is similar to the one worn by this season’s contestants on Biggest Loser.

The system is available now through Pharmanex, and there is still plenty of time to get in shape. Memorial Day, the somewhat “official” start of summer is still a month away. Whether you’re in a rush for swimsuit season or not, the Pharmanex My Victory Plan, is a really well balanced, safe way to lose weight. The armband gives this program a huge advantage over other systems and makes it so easy to keep track of progress.
