NuSkin Enterprises, along with researchers at Purdue University are all set to unveil a report with finding from an extensive study on skin damage, aging and a previously unknown source of superoxide free radicals. The details of the report are a bit confusing and heavy with medical and scientific terminology, but I will try to break it down for you. Bear with me…….
Free radicals are basically atoms with unpaired electrons. They are explosive and can trigger a dangerous chain reaction of disease and damage within the human body. Many researchers have attributed an increased number of free radicals within the body as a key factor in aging. Free radicals from external factors as sun exposure, and smoking have been known to damage skin and deplete the skins collagen and elastin. Now, NuSkin and Purdue researchers have identified a new source of superoxide free radicals called NADH Oxidase, or arNOX.
The scientists on the research team will present their finding on arNOX at the International Investigative Dermatology 2008 Conference. The conference, held in Kyoto Japan, May 14-17 is the world’s only forum for discussions and presentations on skin biology.
The research team from NuSkin and Purdue will present their finding on the potentially damaging effects of arNOX on cell membranes. The team will also introduce evidence of increased arNOX activity in those 45-70.
“Evidence of arNOX in the skin provides further insights into potentially revolutionary therapies for skin care, particularly because its activity correlates with the ages when people begin to see their skin lose its elasticity and firmness, and notice more discoloration and lines and wrinkles,” remarked Helen Knaggs, PhD, vice president of NuSkin global research and development. “If we can develop innovative ways to inhibit arNOX activity and prevent the production of free radicals in the first place, then we can address both sides of the equation — correcting free radical damage from external sources, while at the same time preventing free radical production from internal sources.”
NuSkin is hoping to use this study to come up with ways to inhibit the arNOX free radicals from damaging the skin before the aging process begins to show. Currently, most dermatological treatments can only fix the skin after the effects of aging begin to show. NuSkin is constantly looking for ways to prevent the damage before it begins. The commitment to research is one of the key factors in the success of NuSkin. Their commitment to research has not only set them apart from other MLM companies, but has also put the level of their products above them as well.
