These two companies along with Avon and USANA are the bell-weathers of the MLM industry so if Nu Skin can report some significant growth - especially overseas, it could represent increased encouragement on the health of industry.

Two studies sponsored by the Pharmanex BJ Clinical Pharmacology Center in Beijing have found that the combination of the active ingredients in Reishi mushrooms and Green Tea inhibited the growth of tumors and prolonged the life of mice with sarcomas. Sarcomas are cancers of the bone, cartilage, muscle or other connective or supportive tissue.

In one study, the researchers gave mice with sarcoma cells either low, medium or high doses of Pharmanex Products, ReishiMax, containing high levels of components of the reishi mushroom, or a combination of ReishiMax and Tegreen which is made up of 99% green tea polyphenols. The study found that the mice with the combination of the two lived significantly longer than those who received nothing or just one of the ReishiMax.

In the second study, the mice were given a combination of the Reishi and Green Tea products for a course of 14 days. After 2 weeks, the mice were injected with sarcoma cells. The mice given the combination of the two extracts were half as likely to develop tumors than those who received only one extract or those who received nothing at all.

Reishi Mushrooms and Green Tea have been important ingredients in Chinese medicinal culture for centuries. Today, scientists are beginning to research just how significant their contribution could possibly be to modern science.

While these two studies probably won’t be published by medical journals or recognized by the FDA any time soon, hopefully it will garner some attention that will lead to further testing. The Pharmanex study was presented this past week at the Experimental Biology 2008 meeting in San Diego
