Ordinary Man – Extraordinary Results: Steve Thompson
“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” or at least that is how I believe the sentence goes… however, every once in a while, you find that something or someone who surprises you. Steve Thompson just may be that surprise.
At 53 years old this entrepreneur is re-inventing himself; for his current life and the one to follow over the next 15 years. This man has a history of recognizing opportunities, and has made the most of each.
In Michael E. Gerber’s best seller ‘Awakening the Entrepreneur Within’ the author explains How Ordinary People Can Create Extraordinary Companies. This became important to us, as we try to understand what keeps Steve Thompson motivated, and why he continues to push so hard?
In Mr. Gerber’s book we read about the age of the ‘new entrepreneur’. How in today’s world we must reach further than simply to do something meaningful or deliver a good product… we must reach much, much deeper than simply creating more choices, or lower prices, or faster delivery. How in this age of the entrepreneur, we must kick butt in ways no one ever thought possible. Does this relate to Steve Thompson and his Ambit Energy business? The answers will be found as we understand where he came from, where he is going and why he must get there.
Steve spent his formative years in a small East Texas town, where hard work and hard times were the way of life. Steve finished high school in Houston, pushed hard and graduated early from college at age 20. He began selling for many national sales companies trying to better himself and his family in an effort to make a living. Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, and loving the sound of his own name he opened Steve Thompson Insurance agency in 1979.
During those early and formative years of his insurance company, although there were monetary concerns, Steve had an overwhelming desire to serve those around him as well as grow personally and professionally. These personal needs were fulfilled through added opportunities to serve as a Volunteer EMT, Assistant Fire Chief and EMS Coordinator.
Although these opportunities to serve and grow helped Steve fulfill his inner aspirations, his financial life grew as well. In 1982 Steve recognized his need for further financial security and became a Texas Real Estate Broker and in 1984 a Distributor with Herbalife. The big difference as Thompson puts it… “I was willing to do whatever was necessary, and I still am!”
Understanding the benefit and opportunity with the Home Based business model, especially as it related to Network Marketing or Multi-level Marketing, Steve worked hard to make the most of his Herbalife business. Steve realized there were emerging opportunities in the industry, where entire new market segments were developed. In 1996 Steve became a representative with Excel Communications, a Teleservices company that sold long distance.
Thompson became a very successful ‘Senior Director’ distributor/representative with Excel, and earned several hundred thousand dollars with Excel, when he was offered the position of Founding Distributor of NuVante, Nutrition for the Skin in 2003 and helped to launch that company. This was the first intimate experience with a ‘Start-Up’ company in the MLM industry, which later proved to be a very significant and valuable education.
Continuing tomorrow Steve tells how skin care lead to travel and ultimately to Ambit…

Hmmm… As a fellow 50-something, not sure I’d like being called an “old dog…” How about you, Steve? LoL
Anyway, I’ve known Steve for a lot of years, including those heady days at Excel. Can honestly say as a marketing exec within Ambit I can always point at Steve and say, “learn from this guy - he does it right.”

As a newer consultant for Ambit I haven’t met Steve but I am an ‘older dog’ no!– just been around the block a few times, my husband is an EMT in Minnesota still. We bought a home in Texas City/Galveston were I have my real estate license…many new hats I am wearing since moving to Texas (got here as soon as I could) from Minnesota; But I was so impressed and get more impressed every day with Ambit. My goal is to wear only one hat some day…SOON and that is to travel to other states and tell people in the deregulating states what a GREAT company this is.
They really do care about us (consultants) and the customers we bring in. It is proven by all the special offers, the give-aways and most of all their hands on attitude to building this company.
PS: this was not a paid for testimonial…I am writing it because I am head over heals excited about this company…and so is my MR. SKEPTIC husband.

It has been an honor to be a consultant wih Ambit Energy and a member of Steve’s team Momemtum Matrix. I was torn whether to comment and felt it would be seen as a conflict of interest, but my Dear Mother taught me that when you love and appreciate someone you should always let them know it.
Mere words could not express the gratitude I feel for all of the help he has given to us as a team. He leads by example and from the front like a great general. Steve Thompson is a true leader who understands this industry inside and out. His selfless dedication to helping people succeed has been key to his and our success with Ambit Energy.
I could go on and on but I don’t want to start crying over my keyboard. Thank You Steve for your leadership and commitment. Thanks for sharing all you know, and doing all you can do. Steve Thompson is far from an “old dog”. He is a dynamo that spends endless hours in servant leadership guiding us through this business and leaving his heart on the ground. I don’t know how he does it, but we are sure glad and blessed that he does it so darn well.

I saw him several times, and I have similar experiences as Steve Thompson. I currently work in an insurance company and I used to do network business; I plan to, like him, make $100,000 monthly within the next three years.

As a mother of 4 in California who has spent the last 13 years working the 9-5 only to barely stay above water living from paycheck to paycheck.. Ambit is literally the opportunity of a lifetime. One of the many things I like about Ambit is the fact that it’s built on team work. You become successful by helping others to achieve success. That in itself is invaluable.. especially for someone like myself who was fairly new to network marketing and needed that guidance & support. With Ambit Energy.. I truly believe that no matter who you are or where you come from.. with a little faith and a willingness to walk outside of your comfort zone, it’s impossible to fail. Ambit Energy for me, is the way that I will be able to leave a legacy to my children & my children’s children. I have yet to meet you Steve.. but thank you for changing my life

Thanks so much for the opportunity to be a part of this up and coming Ambit Energy business. At the present time, I am an Ambit Energy Marketing Consultant. I am looking forward to growing with this company. I thank God for allowing my son, Christopher Boykins, to meet Phillip Eckard in 2007. It blesses me when I see and hear both of them get excited when sharing about their Ambit Energy experience. I am looking forward to going to the next level and position in Ambit Energy. Congratulations on this article write up about you, Steve Thompson, and Ambit Energy. It encourages me to continue to build my business with Ambit Energy. Keep up the GREAT WORK. God bless you and your endeavors.

I don’t know much about Ambit Energy or Steve Thompson but I do know this….
This website and idea of a blog for the MLM Industry is a long time coming! What a great idea. I am going to tell everyone I know about this. I am assuming there will be continuing write-ups as this thing progresses. This may be just the thing I have been looking for to connect me to the industry in a different way. Way to go OpTree!

Great Bio Steve..
I am rounding that ole dog corner as I just turned 41 back on the 11th of January.
I am living and positioning myself within a soon to be pre-launched state and your Bio reminded me why I am doing all this.
Although very new to Ambit, the training (corporate and the external teams) have revived my drive and passion to earn and learn.
Thank you and God Bless!
