USANA announced that their BiOmega Fish Oil Supplement was recently evaluated by ConsumerLab.com and was approved. ConsumerLab.com is an independent testing and research facility that evaluates products for consumer health and safety.
The testing of the BiOmega was just a piece of a larger study of dietary products in the U.S. that claim to contain omega-3 fatty acids. Products were tested for omega 3 levels, mercury, PCB contamination, signs of decomposition, and most importantly, lead levels.
USANA was pleased to announce that their product approval ratings in all 3 categories. In their review of the product, ConsumerLab said that the quality of the fish oil is important because supplement levels vary depending on how the products are processed. USANA uses a ‘double molecular distillation process’ during the manufacturing of the BiOmega to make sure that the product is of highest quality and safe from any kind of contamination.
“We are happy to see the results from the ConsumerLab.com trial, but we are not surprised,” said Dr. Tim Wood, USANA executive vice president of research and development. “These results confirm our extensive in-house testing. USANA is committed to only the highest quality manufacturing and analytical testing systems and practices. We are very pleased to receive independent confirmation of the quality and purity of BiOmega from this test.”
The lead level testing is probably the most important one considering what’s been going on in the nutritional supplement world lately. Christopher Grell, the lawyer representing the consumer who claims to have been sickened by Herbalife products, has mentioned USANA in statements regarding lead levels in nutritional supplements. This test, by a highly regarded independent lab, is good evidence that the product is safe when it comes to lead levels. Test results are available at www.consumerlab.com.
